Start with the function
A component begins with a job: transmit torque, support a rotating shaft, control flow or guide a magnetic field. That job defines the required properties and the conditions under which they must be maintained. Choosing a powder before understanding the function can constrain the design unnecessarily.
The particle is a process input
Chemistry, particle shape, size distribution, flow and apparent density all affect powder behaviour. Their relative importance changes with the process: die filling, powder-layer spreading and binder-based moulding each place different demands on the material.
Consolidation creates the structure
Compaction, sintering, forging and isostatic pressing create different structures and production requirements. Density, porosity, dimensional change and microstructure are connected to the selected process. Secondary operations may still be needed to achieve the intended component condition.
Establish the component specification
The result is a component specification supported by test records and a defined manufacturing route. KVX’s development approach brings material selection, processing and application requirements into the same technical discussion.
